Blacksmith for a Day

Discover an age-old trade that’s experiencing a modern revival at the Hector Heritage Quay.

Under the guidance of an experienced blacksmith, Valentin Velchev, you’ll explore the craft of transforming raw metal into both practical and artistic creations. From forging essentials like horseshoes, nails, and hinges to crafting decorative pieces such as wall art, hooks, and sculptures, blacksmithing connects us to our heritage—and reveals just how much we’re capable of creating with our own hands. Workshops can be tailored to experience level.

• All materials and tools
• Safety equipment required for blacksmithing
• Opportunity to learn from a skilled craftsman
• Work of art to take home

Length: 6 hours, with a 40-minute lunch break and two 10-minute breaks (morning and afternoon)

Offered: Tuesday – Saturday (not including July 12, August 29 and August 30).

Time: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Price: Adults over 16 years of age, $132 per person plus tax. Members or season pass holders receive a 15 per cent discount.

Good to Know:

• This course has a maximum capacity of two people
• Participants must wear closed toed shoes and pants.
• Participants must bring or purchase their own lunch. Water bottles are encouraged.
• There are only 2 spots available each day. Exceptions will be considered by emailing info@shiphector.ca
• Participants must be 16 years of age and be able to lift at least 10 lbs.
• Participants will be required to stand most of the day and work in a hot environment.

Cancellations made up to 24 hours before arrival time will be refunded 100% of the booking fee. Cancellations within 24 hours of arrival time will be refunded 50% of the booking fee. On days when it is too hot to provide the course booking fees will be refunded 100% and a free day pass will be provided to the Hector Heritage Quay.
