Mermaid Theatre has been a beacon of creativity and culture since its founding in 1972 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. In 1987, we moved to neighboring Windsor, contributing to the revitalization of the town’s historic downtown core. Our expansive headquarters house a variety of spaces, including production studios, administrative offices, rehearsal areas, a versatile performance studio, animation studios, film and television recording facilities, and the elegant 400-seat Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre (MIPAC).
Mermaid Theatre is also home to MermaidTV, where we create cutting-edge digital content. Currently, we are working on season two of Animalingo, a groundbreaking series that blends live-action puppetry with 3D animation to engage audiences in a unique, immersive experience.
Each year, we present over 400 performances for more than 300,000 spectators, many of whom are experiencing theatre for the first time. Our productions travel extensively across Canada and the United States, and we have proudly represented Canada in over a dozen countries. Our performances feature recorded narration by renowned international artists, available in English, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, French, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
Closer to home, Mermaid’s Institute of Puppetry Arts offers both community and professional-level puppetry instruction. Through its imaginative, curriculum-based touring programs, the Institute entertains and educates students and teachers throughout the region, encouraging the use of performing arts in teaching science. Our MIPAC Performing Arts Series draws audiences from near and far, with performances from live concerts, to comedy throughout the year.
