Kannon Beach is the largest surf shop in Nova Scotia and has been locally owned and operated since its creation in 1991. The shop is located in The Macdonald House, a popular tourist stop just 30 minutes from Halifax. The house is situated on top of the picturesque Lawrencetown headland overlooking many popular surf breaks in the area.

Kannon Beach offers an extensive selection of surfboards, wetsuits, surf accessories, and stand up paddleboards (SUP) for sale at their location for surfers of all skill levels. They also offer surfing lessons at Lawrencetown Beach Provincial Park – the hub of surfing in Nova Scotia – where their goal is to get you standing on surfboard in a safe, friendly, and supportive environment.

All surfing lessons include a little over an hour with one of our experienced, certified surfing instructors. Lessons include dry land training which explains basic surfing techniques, basic ocean safety tips, followed by an hour in the water with an instructor.

Surf lessons include a full day rental of a wetsuit (with boots and gloves) and surfboard so you can continue practicing.

• Private surfing lessons: $105

Equipment rentals are also available by the day, including:

  • Wetsuits (includes boots and gloves): $25 + HST
  • Boots and gloves: $10 + HST (without wetsuit rental)
